Using analogies like "boxes on shelves" for men's brains and "a bowl of spaghetti" for women's brains, this week’s sermon opens with an illustration of the differences in their thought processes. In premarital counseling sessions, Pastor Ben explained that he has the joy of meeting with couples in love but has found that the sessions often involve helping the couple navigate the challenges faced in understanding each other's unique perspectives.
Transitioning to the topic of stewardship of time, he reflects on the Ascension of Jesus and its significance in relation to time and eternity, stressing the finite nature of time and the importance of prioritizing values and faith in time management. Pastor Ben highlights the need to recognize the limitations of time while acknowledging God's abundance and the eternal life already won through Jesus.
However, rather than viewing time as a scarce resource to be squeezed for more religious activities, Pastor Ben advocates for an abundant perspective where every moment is an opportunity to live out one's faith. We are encouraged to use our individual gifts and talents to serve others, glorifying God in every aspect of life. Ultimately, stewardship of time is a balance between self-reflection and action, grounded in the assurance of God's grace and presence.

As we follow Jesus, we might believe we know what an idol is, but what if there were more than we typically think about? Join Pastor Jared Townley as we explore some of "The Idols of Today". Today, we begin with the basic question; what is an idol? Luther shows us that it is so much more than an object that we worship and bow down to praise.

This week’s message begins with a simple, but engaging question about Oreo cookies: if you saw a cookie jar sitting on the kitchen countertop with only a few cookies remaining would you be more likely to eat the cookies? Or wait and save the cookies for later? This is meant to illustrate two mindsets: scarcity and abundance, through the lens of how one views a nearly empty cookie jar. Pastor Jared draws parallels to faith and stewardship emphasizing Jesus' ability to provide abundantly, using the story of the feeding of the 5,000 as an example. Despite initial doubts from the disciples, Jesus demonstrates his abundance by not only satisfying the crowd's hunger but also providing a surplus. We are encouraged to adopt an abundant mindset in stewardship, trusting in God's provision and seeing potential even in perceived scarcity.

Our Epistle Reading (Acts 8:26-40) relays the experience of an Ethiopian eunuch struggling to understand the book of Isaiah, particularly Isaiah 53, which prophesies Jesus' sacrifice. Philip, guided by the Holy Spirit, helps him comprehend the message, leading to the eunuch's baptism. Pastor Ben's sermon draws parallels between the eunuch's confusion and our own need for guidance in faith. He emphasizes the importance of community, our shared past of brokenness, and our role in sharing the Gospel. We are encouraged as believers to recognize God's purpose in our everyday lives, prompting an openness to divine opportunities for sharing our faith.

We all know that we ‘should’ practice stewardship, but if someone asked you why, what would you say? Join us for the final video in our “I am a Steward” series as Sarah Cook explores a few different ways God invites us to practice stewardship based in the scriptures. Sarah beautifully describes how our motivation is two fold and is not all about following a command. She is vulnerable about a time in her life that Jesus taught her how to trust him to provide day after day and she challenges all of us to not just do stewardship, but to become a disciple of Jesus.

We may have been told and may be familiar that God desires us to give a tithe, but we often do not consider the spiritual growth that happens as a result of giving a tithe. Bill & Suzanne share with us the profound impact their stewardship journey has made on their lives of faith and how God continues to challenge them today. In a way we can all relate to, they describe the challenges that come with giving a tithe, but also the fruit they have seen come as a result of what God has entrusted them with.
