This week’s sermon begins with a question about the frequency of praying for external changes versus praying for personal transformation. Then, the focus shifts to the theme of our current sermon series: the transformative power of Jesus' parables.
This parable is found in Matthew 21, and its message is about the importance of inner transformation. Pastor Ben, understanding the struggle of the Pharisees who found it challenging to accept Jesus' message, encourages us to reflect on our own resistance to change and potential complacency in our faith, just like the Pharisees.
The parable of the two sons, one who initially refuses but later complies and the other who agrees but doesn't follow through, is used to underscore the significance of actions over words. We are urged to acknowledge our resistance to God's call to active service and transformation. Despite the challenges, Pastor Ben offers hope by emphasizing that Jesus' message promises change and transformation for everyone, including us. He points out that, unlike the Pharisees, we’ve already been transformed by faith and are God's beloved children.
In conclusion, we’re challenged to maintain hope and actively participate in God's work, even when it seems difficult or unlikely. We're encouraged to cultivate a mindset of radical hope and trust in God's transformative power. We're also urged to consider our roles in this ongoing transformation and live out our faith with renewed commitment and action.

In this week’s sermon, Pastor Ben begins by emphasizing the focus on Jesus' parables for the summer, specifically the Parable of the Mustard Seed, highlighting its transformative intent. The small but significant mustard seed is contrasted with our modern cultural preference for "bigger is better," with things like oversized soft drinks, large trucks, massive TVs, and giant cruise ships. Then, we hear the touching story of Hattie May Wyatt, a poor 6-year-old girl in the 1800s who saved 57 cents to help build a larger church building for Grace Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA. Her small contribution went on to inspire significant developments, including not only the establishment of a larger church, but also Temple University and Good Samaritan Hospital.
We explore the connection to the Parable of the Mustard Seed, which illustrates how God's kingdom grows from small beginnings. Pastor Ben emphasizes that Jesus often valued small, humble acts and reminds us that the Christian faith is grounded in the simple yet profound truth that "Jesus Christ died and rose for me." This message, though simple, has the power to transform lives and circumstances, as seen through biblical examples and everyday acts of kindness and service.
In closing, we are encouraged to appreciate the power of small acts of faith and service, trusting that God can use them to create significant, lasting impacts in His kingdom.
